Happy that it is remaining open! Seems a decent compromise to me.
Now, I must stop lurking and contribute more..

I'm just getting back into MBing after a few years away from it, so it's good to see that this section will remain. Adding safeguards can only help the new guys and the oldies who've forgotten everything like me. :)
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

A pleasing solution. Very happy it's staying. :)

I have wanted the reference to gambling out of the title for at least 6 years!

Excellent, glad the points have been taken on board and like the new report system in place for whoever is chosen. If it could be risky then best its not on there and this should do the job.

    Delighted :D
I'm the Board Guide on the Matched Betting; Referrers and Jobseeking & Training boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge posts there. Board guides are not moderators and don't read every post. If you spot an illegal or inappropriate post then please report it to [email protected] (it's not part of my role to deal with this). Excellent to see that a common sense, balanced view has won through. The forum did need some changes, but it would have been a great shame, and a disservice to MSE, to see such a lucrative board and thriving community closed.

I think that's a bit of an odd outcome really.

It's already been determined that there's no such thing as 'risk-free', so why not just make it 'betting offers'? That way it's clear what it's about, betting offers, nothing more than that.

Of course there should be some warnings, but this 'risk-free' idea is a myth anyway. There are plenty of risks associated with this activity, not all of which are obvious, but all of which I think were covered on the last thread.

'Betting' is better than 'gambling' is it?

    Don't see it myself.

Matched betting is better than gambling. People who are not interested in this would form wrong conclusions about its previous title, with the new one they would be less likely to. IMO of course.

NB: I see from your last 20 or so posts that your only interest here appears to have been since the consultation started. Which might suggest, and I only say might, that you may not realise the merits of matched betting.

It clearly said 'loopholes', which to me sounds more of a sure thing than 'matched betting', which could describe betfair's business model. I don't think it's a term that's meaningful to people who don't already know what it is. It's certainly not self-descriptive and if you asked the man on the street, they would probably say that it sounds dodgy.

It also would appear to exclude things like '£10 free' on casino/bingo sites. Which is frankly bizarre, although such offers are not without their (moral) hazard, they are much lower risk than say betting £50 at 10-1 and then trying to lay £500 somewhere else.

    Lol.
I know exactly what the merits are, I've spoken at gambling conferences and so on, I'm by no means a neophyte. As for matched betting I'm not particularly interested in it per se, but if I were to place a bet I certainly wouldn't bother in matching, just reduces the winnings, and I'm not scared of risk.
