Question about switching Companies and Switching websites quotes
Options
Hi, my Mam is currently on Staywarm, but is coming off as the prices are getting out of hand. I have been comparing prices on a couple of websites. I know its not the best time to switch, but when we are ready to, for arguements sake the BG gas price is £1067 a year Gas and Electric (staywarm want £1300) on the comparison site, if we go ahead and sign up would we be paying each month a twelth of that figure or do they give you a different calculation to pay every month? The only thing she doesn't want is to be paying an overly low figure each month and then get told she owes loads of money at the end of the year or they increase it massively next year.
Any advice is appreciated

Wait until all suppliers annouce reductions. Instead go back onto standard powerden domestic products until this is sorted.0

It varies from suppiler, but most if you switch will let you pay what you ask as long as it's reasonable, then adjust it when you get your first reasessment.
A statement will be sent every quarter, usually she should expect to be slightly behind in the winter and build up a surpluss in the summer. If she thinks she isn't paying enough, I don't think any company would object if she asked to increase her dd.0 -
Thanks both, will look into the powergen standard tariff for the time being and thats good to know about the quarterly bill etc

Get an accurate picture of how much she uses per year in terms of kilowatt hours (from the previous bills) then work out how much that will cost per year on the new tariff (including any discounts), then divide it by twelve. That's how much the direct debit SHOULD BE.
If you think their suggestion as a direct debit value is too high or low, suggest they change it. That's what I do.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -

Staywarm don't send out bills - Ask them to provide figures for you over the phone instead.0 -
Thanks Gal, at the end of the year, when they tell you how much your next 12 months will be, they do include how much tou have used in KWH, last year my mam didn't think they were right, thid last year she has been keeping a record of her meter reading - they are not the same as the staywarm figures, but at least she can properly compare other sites
As an aside, she rang SW and was told that there prices would be coming down soon, she queried her large increase at the same time, and was told what she was paying was the right amount for the fuel she was using, but the SW employee couldn't then explain why the weekly amount was to rise by £8!0
