  • Evening all,

well, day 7 for me and I have to admit to a couple of slips - whoopsie hunt on Thursday and a coffee out and bought some ground coffee in the 99p shop today.
Overall, I am pleased as it has still been a relatively frugal week, I think the FF works best for me as a check on spending rather than an all out fast - I'm going to continue in low spend mode, with as many NSDs as possible, at least until this time next month, when our first short break is booked.

Taplady, if you are already quite frugal it's difficult to pare down the shopping too much, unless you get lucky. Hope you get to add to your holiday fund.

Last night's HM pizza went down well here, was able to vary the topping from one side to the other as DD doesn't like chopped tomato or peppers! Tonight was AF nut roast with veggies, and made carrot and bean soup for tomorrow with some dodgy looking carrots.

Petrol is a worry Calico, we try to combine as many journeys as possible, but often going in different directions. Actually read in the paper yesterday that the average petrol spend has just exceeded the average grocery shop for a family of 4.

Got to go, queue for the pooter, hope everyone is OK and saving money!

Lally, forgot to say, glad you are on the mend.

i agree with MM - for me i'm half fasting half spend-checking.

more well-OOD quorn for sarnies tmrw. bought some more value tinned fruit to go in yogs.

going back to porridge for bfasts - tried some Mr A's value museli as porridge, but not nice, so will use it to make flapjacks.

bought some bits but have tried to make it dual-purpose. stuff that will last such as celery and carrots which i will use to make a big batch of veggie mince and also chop up and take to work with cubes of cheese.

have been making a bit extra mash each time and then freezing to top cottage pies.

GQ - you must make scones! i use my gran's old be-roll cookbook to make cheese scones, which are so easy and quick and so moreish too.

Started my Frugal Fast today - Day 1 without a spend! Hurrah! :j

Just hope I will be able to keep it going until next weekend - need to do it as I am having a very swish afternoon tea next Sunday with some friends and I can't really afford it unless I severely restrict any spending this week!

Oooo Be-Ro cookbook cheese scones. I LIKE the sound of those. Would it be very cheeky to ask if you'd stick the recipe up here?

:o Well, tomorrow would do. I'm off to my nest right now.:o

    Sleep tight, everyone. GQx

Welcome Niksyg, I hope you read the smallprint that says this Frugal Fasting may become addictive and will likely have a detrimental impact on your waistline.

I dare not post this on the OS diet thread, today I ate:

    B. Porridge with maple syrup (to use up ancient maple syrup)

    L. Half a largish custard tart and a banana.

    D. Chicken special fried rice, spring rolls and sweet chilli sauce followed by one and a half scones with butter. See above GQ made me do it after looking at the Be-ro website.

My fridge is looking so lovely today, I stripped it all out shelves an'all and now its all shiny and clean and in order. Only had to sling the dregs of some Caesar salad dressing that had gone past the point of no return.

Now just got to plan what to do for an encore tomorrow, if all else fails we at least have scones and custard tarts in case of emergency. :D

Broke my fast today - but with a good reason.

Popped into town, sold a couple of bags of unwanted stuff to a dealer - all that time I've saved by not shopping I used to good effect and did some decluttering. Made £40.

Popped into Home Bargains and did a mini stock up - toiletries, cleaning materials, and a few store cupboard bits. Spent £13 but got my parking fee of £3-10 back.

Parking in our city centre is expensive - so I always try and combine a trip to Home Bargains - spend £5 or more and get a parking refund.

Also petrol saving - did everything in one trip, also calling in at Wilkinsons and the fruit and veg market. Total spend today £18.

The purse will now be closed again....

PS Lally - glad to hear you are "mending" - wishing you a speedy recovery.

lessonlearned - isn't that neutral spending because you made £40?? Surely it doesn't really count?!

Day 2 for me and no spends yet.
Managed to get 3 hours free parking whilst I was at a meeting this morning and have had meals from stores so far.
Off to aerobics tonight which is included in monthly gym membership and then home for yummy storecupboard dinner, so no spends on the horizon! :-)
