That's a very good Idea GreyQueen - I'll slip it in somehow. In te meantime I'm really enjoying working my way through it!

Not quite the NSD I'd planned today as DH decided to buy himself a beer on the way home and a cider for me. Still a LSD tho so I'm not complaining too much.....

Good Morning! We're back from our weekend away which was a bit spendy I have to confess. Now that we're back we need to reign in the spending which should be easy this week as there's only me and DH at home until Friday evening. There's a lot of veg in the garden and some meat in the freezer, so apart from needing a pat of butter and a bit of fruit, we may well make it through until Friday with no spending.

Right, better get on with the day, so far I've only managed to put a load of washing in and drunk a lot of coffee!
    Trying to keep in budget.

The trick is to work out whether 7 days is doable? I can do it at times but only because I do not have to shop for others, I live alone so can plan things more easily. If you have kids 3 days can be tough to achieve.

I can't do 7 days as I have a 3 year old who has activities etc.

Well yesterday was a NSD but today I have bought some songs on iTunes that I really wanted to listen to on the train - will not be going to the shops though so will still be a no spend on food day. We will be having stir fry for tea and I have a YS soup from Tesco for lunch.
    My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.
  • FISCAL FAST............thatconcept made me laugh but truly why not isnt it.

What you could do is keep a petty cash kitty for small things for your child and take the money out on a set day each week or month. Then you could count it as all ready part of that spend. The trick then is to avoid any other spend which might be a lot easier if you have taken one element out of the equation. For example I could get all my monthly cash float out on the first and only use that for milk coffee etc and so it my bank cards are not touched for days. If I need milk then it will have been counted as part of the first.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Another NSD planned here - no beer for DH on his way home today! Tomorrow is the big shop, then I have a whole lot of fasting planned.....

cookiemama You will enjoy having a go and if you can get the children on board its half the battle.treat it as a challenge and see if they can come up with ways to make what you have streeetch out. Children can be very inventive ,especially if they think of it as a bit of a challenge, and most of them love helping to cook.

They are three and 1.5yrs old so they do love to 'help' with everything! Not sure how well that translates to eating, however...

Had a nsd today as a result of me getting OHs illness. Not much motivation to go out! The chicken soup made from my leftover chicken carcass from last night was very restorative I will say. Homemade broth is so nourishing when one is feeling ill.

I've been lurking on this and a couple other boards for a couple months and have just plucked up the courage to start posting. I think OH was tiring of hearing me say 'oh what a good idea!' all the time lol. You all have really been a wealth of ideas so many thanks!
  • Day 2 down and I stayed home so didn't get tempted by shopping. We had fish and chips from the freezer and I found lots of things in there that I had forgotten about. We are having pasta and sauce tomorrow and some nice garlic bread - may make an apple sponge for pudding as I found lots of stewed apple from last year that I had totally forgotten about. There was a lot of rhubarb also so think we will have crumble during the week, I may make some and put away for future dinners.
It is easier to organize meals as I am on Summer vacation but if I was at work I would be more tempted to stop at the shops and get something for Tea.
