long w/end in England with pregnant GF

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could reccomend somewhere to stay for a long weekend in England either for the weekend 2nd of March or 9th of march. I was thinking of York or the Peak District but only because I havn't been there so it doesn't have to be.

the main criteria is that my GF is 7.5 months pregnant so it could do with being reasonably central (we are in east midlands) and quite 'nice'. I have no experiance of booking 'nice' hotels! We normally just book something cheap as we don't spend much time in the hotel but with the pregnant thing we are more likely to spend more time in the hotel so a nice hotel bar\dining area, maybe walks nearby and or a pool y'know the sort of thing?

On the plus side it doesn't need to be in the center of any town because my GF isn't drinking at the mo so we could drive into the nearest town\city for entertainment.

I've been looking for review on the web but don't seem to be able to find much I can trust so wanted someone to put forward somewhere they had been before.

Sorry I've rabbled on for ages!
Cheers for any suggestions,
worto.

    Hi,

We only moved to the East Midlands a couple of years ago so we don't know the area that well, I've not tried any of those places. I'm pretty sure I;ve been through Matlock at some point?

Anyway if you've been there and there are a few nice places to eat and have a couple of beers (well I can anyway) and walk ect. then it'll do me.

Is Lincoln a bit rowdy on a weekend? If so maybe Matlock & I've never been to Buxton so I'll take your advice on that one.....

    thanks for the help,
    worto.
  • What about the Cotswolds - Broadway or Bourton in the Water? The Peak District might be a bit hilly for your GF. There are some beatiful places around Broadway to stay and also to visit and it is a lot flatter.

How about the Peak District. We've stayed at a lovely hotel at Monsal Head (think it is called the Monsal Head!). Fantastic views, excellent food, real ale and a lovely cosy bar. There's Bakewell nearby if you want a mooch round a town. Also, Chatsworth and other houses, plus plenty of walking if your girlfriend is up to it. There's plenty of good hotels/b&b's in that area, so you should be able to find something to meet budget.

Have a lovely time away.

If anyone else has any ideas they will be welcome, I'll post again when I've booked up so nobody wastes thier time looking after I've booked.

    cheers,

Thats the one, Worto3. Sorry I would have posted the site myself, but was in a bit of a rush earlier. Hubby and I have been a few times as it's one of our favourite spots. Hope you have a lovely time!
