Softening hard sugar?

I've only ever used Tesco and with a couple of exceptions, always refuse substitutions as I can usually manage until I can get there to buy it myself. If that's the case, maybe I won't try Sainsburys - sounds like more trouble than it's worth -along with their late deliveries too.
I quite like late deliveries though because they then have to give me a £10 voucher!
My husband rang and complained and they gave him a voucher number to credit me with the cost of the sugar on my next shopping bill. He also told the man that it was totally unacceptable that we had to keep ringing the 0870 number every time they made a mistake and he said he would pass his comments on.
I will be writing a letter too though because I would rather not have any substitutes and then I wouldn't have the hassle at all.
I may try Ocado next week (can anyone recommend them?) but I wish Asda delivered in my area because I like their range of goods.0 -
Hi there.
My bag of sugar has gone hard in the kitchen cupboard due to condensation. Its a full bag so it seems a shame to waste it. Is there a way to make it soft again?
Thanks!0 -
You can soften brown sugar by covering the container with a damp cloth overnight.0

Try putting the bag inside a couple of plastic bag and then give it a bang on the floor then give the smaller lumps a bash with the rolling pin.

Rolling pin, I remember my gran used to swear by putting a piece of kitchen roll in coffee and sugar, in fact all kinds, to absorb any moisture. If you go in my kitchen there is a piece over the coffee just under the lidOne day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
To soften hardened sugar, put the whole pack in a stoppered jar or container with a tightly fitting lid. and add a crust of bread.
The next day the sugar will be soft and the bread hard. HTH.0 -
Put the sugar in the microwave for a minute at a time until soft.....work eery time.:j:snow_laugChristmas is just around the corner

Take care with the microwave as when I tried it once with brown sugar it seemed to be flammable!0

Thanks everyone. I'm off to try the exciting flammable microwave method......I can almost hear the fire engines now!!
Perhaps I'll go with the bread crust first!
Thanks again.0 -
Hello
My bag of caster sugar has gone rock hard - is there anything I can do?
I guess next time I should store it in an airtight containerbut I'd love to rescue this lot, too...
Thanks!
