As I mentioned in daisy's thread, they're not expecting (and usually don't want) a showhome - especially not for a breed like the GSD that will moult (and lots of them are waterbabies/magnets for muddy puddles!), they don't want to home to someone too houseproud to cope with a dog.
They may discuss their policies, e.g. if they want you to higher the fence all around. They'll guage your "dog savvy", get an idea of your routine, limitations, experience with dogs, etc. to see if they feel you suit a particular dog or a particular type of dog they have in.
It's not a "do this and you'll fail, do this and you'll pass" situation, it very much depends on all sorts - you, the homechecker's gut feeling, the rescue's policies, the individual dogs available etc. so if they do turn you down, ask them if it's anything that you can change. Don't rule out rescues because one, two, maybe even three turn you down, rescues have different policies so you may fail on different reasons at each rescue, but that's not to say another rescue won't home to you. They tend to have their own policies dependant on their own experience - e.g. a rescue that's had bad luck homing to people with children may have decided to enforce a blanket rule of no children at all, despite the fact that they can live together successfully with the right kind of owner and sensible rules. Not criticizing a rescue for choosing that option, it's their perogative, just don't take it personally if you fail.0 -
Thanks, I would be willing to change anything they wished, obviously I can't change my personality lol but if it was cosmetic changes here and there.
Hope Frankiecat doesn't do a poo when they come in, he has a habit of doing it at the WRONG time, I think he does it deliberately!!
I keep my cats food bowls on top of the tumbledryer, don't know what but I've just thought of it and that might strike some people as odd, they won't have a problem with that will they ? He has water bowls throughout the downstairs of the house.0 -
It's probably a smart idea, when I visit my mum's house with my two she has to move the cat's bowl or they happily polish off the cat's food!0

Relax

Its not a test. See it as a questionnaire to determine what sort of dog would be best for you. Don't tell them what you think they want to hear, tell them how things really are. That way you will end up with a dog suitable for your situation (as far as you can tell with a rescue dog).
If the assessor volunteers for the rescue, then also see it as a chance to see if the rescue is the sort of place you want to get the dog from. Ask them lots of questions and get as much information as you can

Thanks.
Yeah I think the bowls up high is just a habit from having a cat and dog before, otherwise the dog ate the cats food lol.
Frankie cat was at the vet today
Was very worried about him last night as he was dragging his bum around and licking, I have only recentley wormed him again so was worried it was his glands.
When I got up this morning there was trampled poo outside his litter box and his back leg was all poo so I cleaned him up then got partner to take him to the vet as I had to work, turns out he has an infection. More antibiotics for him.0
