Eon Restricted Hour Tarrif

Hi
I moved last year and the property has an RHT meter and am on Plan 7. Whilst I think my heating is cheap as the bill covers Nov, Dec and Jan, we have not maxed the heating as we were unsure about how much it would cost us.
However, what has surprised me is the £231 for daytime rate. We both work long daytime hours and do not run dishwasher, washing machine or tumble drier during the day. In fact, I think we have used the dryer maybe 3 times since we moved in!
My electric distributor is Southern Electric. Can someone tell me when I receive my cheap rate electric? I've been told different things by Eon and I don't think they have a clue, which is very frustrating.
The way the electric is wired is confusing too so I have no idea if it is correct or not. There is a switch near the immersion which has a red light and it is on all different times of the day. I am now ensuring that I switch it off as soon as I wake and only turn it back on when I go to bed.
I'd love to switch and thought I'd got a great deal with Scottish Power. However, I've just had a letter saying they can't supply me as I have this meter set up.
Surely what Eon are doing is wrong. It is impossible to switch from them as a supplier unless you are prepared to pay an electrician to look at the wiring and re-do it. (When it was originally set up, Eon did the work themselves.)
Any ideas? Thanks in advance

If your meter is a radio teleswitch type, there is no national document explaining how they work so suppliers have to approach the distributors to understand the switching times that are broadcast to the meter each night. This means suppliers often don't know and their staff are stuck in the middle not knowing either.
If the meter is a time switch type, the timings are held on a website but you would need a code called SSC to find them.
Could you give more details e.g. how many readings on the meter and bill is it wired to work on day, night and separate heat eg ?:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Hi, the meter itself usually gives the info when the cheap/normal tariffs are in force, a blinking cursor pointing to one or two or the reading blinking or just the reading itself appearing telling you its the rate in progress at the time you are looking at it.there are many types of multi rate meters around. a very common one with a blue button (ampy) always shows the rate currently in progress. 12.30 am to 7.30 am is a popular period moving to 1.30 am to 8.30 am in B.S.T.0

Hi louie_mac73
Firstly; I want to reassure you that E.ON didn’t decide that an RHT meter would be fitted at your property. Normally the developer’s request this and for good reason, as it’s wired directly into the heating/water heating circuits.
There are lots of different types of RHT meter, but I can access the SSC info that Terrylw1 mentioned in his post, so that you know when the meter switches over and your off peak rates apply.
If this type of meter isn’t suitable for your lifestyle, then we can look at changing it for you so that you have a wider choice of tariff and suppliers. We do ask that you seek independent advice from an electrician to determine the effects this will have on the heating system in your property.
If you choose to go ahead with the meter change against this advice, we can’t be held responsible for any problems that may arise as a result. The charge for changing the meter is payable up front and is £51.06 per meter.
If you want to email me using the address on my profile, I’ll get those switching times for you and that should help you figure out what to do for the best
