WTC threatening me with court

A general question for which I'm hoping for an answer please.
Tax credits stopped in 2004 when I retired. I have now received a letter telling me I will be taken to court on 12th March if I don't repay an overpayment of £600+.
I phoned them and the woman told me they had contacted me before, I think she said in 2009, and blinded me with figures. I haven't received anything from them before so I asked for the figures to be put in writing. She told me I have to apply to their Preston office for that. I applied and just got a leaflet telling me why overpayments occur (ie, I didn't inform them of my change of circumstances. I did when I stopped work as I knew I would no longer be entitled).
Would like to know if anyone can advise me how I can get these figures, which I will of course dispute. Tia.

Keep asking, but if you don't get anywhere then write to ask formally for a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act. There's some basic information here, I believe a SAR is free from HMRC:
