do all cameras flash when they catch you speeding? will you always see it? or are there some that you won't know you have been caught until you get the letter?

Some of the digital camera's (Truvelo?) have an infra-red flash, you wouldn't see this.
They look like this:“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Over here they are fitted with a magenta filter which gives off a violet tinged flash when set off and this flash is very noticeable as it is in the face of the oncoming driver.

Truvelo, Gatso, HADECS, Monitron, Peek and the Red Speed cameras all flash. SPECS average-speed setups don't flash, nor do van and tripod based laser detection, like the LTI 20:20.I am a mortgage broker. Kingstreet is correct about front facing Truvelos and their nearly invisible magenta flash.
The rear facing ones, e.g. gatso, redspeed and monitron, have a visible white flash.
SPECS average speed cameras use infra red (or sometimes a permanent white floodlight stood in the middle of the roadworks) and so have no visible flash.
So basically, rear facing ones flash and front facing ones don't.0
