Painting over bumpy wall

    options are papering the ceiling, get a plasterer in, or (prob best for diy) plasterboard and then paint.

  • I had this problem and used smoothover and eventually got some reasonably good results. There is definatly a technique to using smoothover and it isn't as easy as it looks on the polyfiller video on the web site but if you do decide to use it here's some of the things you might find helpful:

    1) The special tool is quite expensive but seens to work well with a bit of practise

    2) Its best to spread the thinnest layer possible on the wall and this means you have to press quite hard on the tool

    3) I couldn't get a smooth finish by just using the tool - lots of sanding required but this was quite easy.

    4) I got the small tub of smoothover which made it difficult to load the special tool as the tub wasn't wide enough

    5) If it is a big wall it might be better to do the job properly and get a plastererin.
