Amsterdam Accomodation....Under £50 a night 16th-19th March...Challenge

Me and my brother will bet going to Amsterday of Friday 16th March coming back on the 19th Monday-Flights have been booked. Yes as stated in title we would like to pay £50 a night if possible. Most people have been slated for having similiar low budgets for accomodation in amsterdam on other forums. However, I have found several really good choices in amsterdam....though all quite far away from the city centre. We will likely book one of these if nothing better is found, because I am aware that Amsterdams travel links are awesome.

However, ideally we want to close to the City Centre as possible....without having hostel type accomodation. Have found two places bang in middle for amsterdam for £55-60 night for my dates, advertised as hotels but according to reviews are hostel types. We are not too fussy at all really, somewhere clean/basic would be fine really....though both these places have just too much negatives too be considered (e.g. people reporting stuff being stolen from their bags, very unclean etc). If neccessary will push the budget out £60 per night for the right place.

Lol we are not being 'tight' just kinda poor at the minute and think it would be unwise to blow a wad of cash on merely a room which will be used for sleeping in. I would rather spend that money on seeing the best of Amsterdam.

Any ideas? Id extra appreciate help from anyone who can do a accomodation search for me, using any tricks they may know since I have given my dates :) Really appreciate any advice-value everyones precious time. Thanks.

Go to tripadvisor and the amsterdam forum, and read the bidding on a 5* hotel in amsterdam. And see what results people have got.

I did my daughers the other day, we chose 4* in the central area, i bid £50 at first for the 2 of them and it was refused, so i upped the bid to £60 a night, you can only bid once in 24 hours, and can go up by a couple of pounds, but i didn't want to, so went in with £60, we was successful and got the 5* nh barbizion palace, i've stayed here so i know what it's like and i was really pleased with it.

I doubt that you will get a 4 or 5* for this price, but i think that you would be succesful with a 3* but you do have to be prepared, that what you bid on you are bound to buy.

but there's a lot of help on the tripadvisor forum.

Thanks for your Reply. WHAT AN AMAZING DEAL you got there. Would gladly pay £60 a night for NH Barbizon! Was that though priceline? Whilst I have some guidelines/tips on priceline on betterbidding.com, ive not seen any clear cut answers as to the 'timinig' of my biddings relative to when one is staying.
Did so many searches on standard comparison sites and have looked at the NH Barbizon....and the best price I have had is still over a £100+ night.

Thanks for your reply. Have stayed in Etap within the UK and yeah agree was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness etc. But I wouldnt consider it for Amsterdan on the basis that I dont think they have one towards the centre and for £40-45 have seen a proper 4* with breakfast towards the airport. Agreed with regards to transport Thanks :T

It can be like how long is a peice of string.

PL\Hotwire works on "distressed" hotel inventory (rooms they can't sell) so it depends when the hotel decides this.

General rule of thumb is about 1-2 months out-but there are lots of variables.

Have you done any research as to what hotel you may get in AMS and what's a good price?

Thanks for your reply blindman and also for the excellent guides you wrote :T

There is a ridiculous amount of choice in Amsterdam which you are probably familiar with. Any centrally located NH hotels are good....NH Amsterdan centre (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g188590-d275406-Reviews-NH_Amsterdam_Centre-Amsterdam_Noord_Holland.html) is one that keeps cropping up that a number of people seem to have got for under £50 a night on Tripadvisor and BB via Priceline. I believe someone on MSE also got this hotel for a similiar price. This would be a bargain in my eyes. The only slight concern I have with regards to priceline is that we would be allocated a double bed, as opposed to two singles. As your the expert what would you reckon the chances are of me being able sway the hotel in terms of type of room, if allocated a double bed? I do understand the discretion of allocating whatever bed/type of room is part of the reason priceline/hotels are willing to offer rooms at the rates theydo.

My second choice option at present is the secret hotels on hotwire. One 2* hotel and One 3*. These are priced at £163 and £172 respectively for our stay. HOWEVER, despite posting the details on BB nobody appears to have figured out what these hotels are and it would be dependant on this.

1 It really does depend on the hotel. All rooms are allocated on arrival so if you turn up early you cans ASK for two singles. The hotel may NOT have rooms with two singles or they can be ar**y and stick to the PL guarantee and give you a double.
Stick two pillows down the middle of the bed if the latter is the only choice

    2. BB are the experts Thereuare will reply soon I'm sure
