Getting a shower fitted?

Deicist
Hello all, hopefully someone can help me with this. Basically I own a fairly old (1930's) house which has never had a shower in. I would quite like to get one fitted, however I'm not sure if I need a plumber, an electrician or both?
The hot water tank is in the bathroom, so the shower head would be above the level of the hot water tank...so I think I need a power shower? And I've been told that this will require a dedicated electrical cable taking from my Fusebox to where the shower needs to go...
Anyway, who would I need to contact to see about this and any ideas as to an approximate cost?
Cheers!

The term power shower is often used erroneously. Do you simply mean an electric shower?
If so you will need a plumber and an electrician. The plumber will do the water connection and the electrician will provide a dedicated supply to the shower. Get recommendations for a plumber and speak to him. Most will have an electrician that they can bring along.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
do you mean an electric shower (one that heats the water within the shower) if so then you would need a plumber & electrician, if you just want a normal shower valve then you just need a plumber, when you say hot water tank i persume you mean your cylinder with a main tank in the roof, if this is the case then you could just have a normal shower valve or a powershower if you want the latter then normally you will have a pump (normally in the airing cupboard) so this would need wiring, you can't cost this as not enough info of your house or what you want, get a plumber round to advise & give you a price
*edit as phill said he beat me to itI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Hi There, as said before, plumber for a thermo mixer shower off your hot water supply and an electrican + plumber for an electric shower. I always go electric, instant hot water, possibly cheaper than the boiler running to get hot water, install costs I would imagine are roughly the same, typical shower install approx £200 supply and fit, you will pay that just for a decent thermo mixer!.0

Hi: alternatively, many plumbers out there are also qualified in electrics.
