From midnight last night until 5pm tonight I have been without electricty along with loads of my neighbours.

My supplier is Swalec and they havent contacted us about the loss of service or offered any apology or explanation.

Just wondering whether I complain and whether there is any compensation procedure......ie wasted food.

You can claim on your contents insurances. I had this problem a few years ago, as I had two freezers alot of food was waisted and my insurance company paid out with no problem

If you want to complain its your distribution company - Number is on your bill.

However they will just advise you that for loss of food contents insurance and will probably only refund you £20 as a gesture of goodwill if your lucky.
  • As said above you need to go to your distribution company not swalec. I dont think you will get very far though.

Double check your terms and conditions - I noticed on mine (npower) that you CAN claim for loss of supply e.g. if it's off for more than 4 3-hour periods (or 3 4-hour periods, can't remember offhand) in any twelve months. Sure there was also something about if it's off for longer than 12 hours at one go. There may be caveats about acts of god etc, so might depend on what the root cause was.
