Bedside TV in Hospitals

All well and good but there are several implications here. How did he connect his laptop in order to receive TV? A lucky man indeed if his laptop had a DVB-T tuner built in and he could simply plug it into a convenient wall socket.
Works fine.
Get up to date a bit eh?The DWP = Legally kicking the Disabled when they are down.0 -
Southend University Hospital has TV sets on the wall by each bed in 6-bed rooms and they can be a curse. If you're in the bed opposite the damned things are flickering in your eyes all the time whether you want them or not and whether you asked for them or not. DH and I have done our best to have the screen turned to the wall because if there's no one in the bed opposite or if they're not watching, you just get this orange and blue in your face and you can't escape.
In hospital I'm quite happy listening to my iPod.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

The last 3 times I've been in all were baby related. First one was when I gave birth, I had a private room so got my own tv (free). Second time my son was 2 weeks old, we were put in a private room as he had no vaccinations so again our own tv (free). The last time we were on children's ward. No tv in the ward but my iPhone has 3G so I was able to go online and watch TV that way.
Lucky, I was in my own room when I was in in Oct but still had to pay for use of the bedside tv!~
Heaven's heard me calling. The stars have all aligned.0 -

Works fine.
Get up to date a bit eh?The mini-aerials provided with dongle DVB-T tuners are only of any use if you live next door to the mast that's transmitting it.

Anyone fancy starting a twitter/facebook campaign on this issue? My granda (84) qualifies for a free TV licence yet has to pay for TV in hospital.
If you pay for 5 hours but only watch one hour then fall asleep for 4 you lose the 4 hours.
Criminals in jail do not have to pay for TV, but if you are bedbound in hospital you do.
One of our local hospitals got rid of the TV room as they needed more storage space, now everyone has to pay to watch TV.0 -
@elaineduncan What a great idea!
Quite frankly this all looks like commercial exploitation of vulnerable Patients. What they need is to bring in Laptops etc and play Free or on 3G modems within the hospital environment.
Problem solved.
The alternative is a national rolled out Service that is free at point of service and easily customisable to each bed.#TY Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.
Reading whatever books I want to the rescue!:money::beer[/B

Musgrove park Taunton is £2.50 a day for about 20 channels, net and free calls to numbers starting 01. When i was admitted there in 2009 i asked if i could bring my laptop in, they said no.....it needed a safety sticker on it, electrical appliance etc.
Roll back to '99 i was in Burnley General for 8 weeks. Had my own room, they let me have my portable TV in the room, own bedding etc, was great!
I know there was a scandal a few yr ago about bedside phones being the reason mobiles were banned from hospitals. So patients had to pay. Conspiracy theory maybe??? Lol. Still a rip-off!! x We pay Tax and NI, should be free to those who need it. Hospitals are boring enough. I was in for a week in sep 11 with suspected ectopic, spent about 30just on tv!!!The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!
The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea0 -
When mum used to go into hospital all the time (usually for three weeks or so, but they would never say how long it would be so I never knew how long to buy tv credit for) it was £5 for 12 hours, £10 for 2 days, £15 for 3 days and £20 for 5 days. Used to cost me an absolute fortune.
This was Broomfield hospital in Essex, tv service was run by Hospedia.0 -
In Aberdeen Royal Infirmary it's £7.50 for 24 hours. I remember when it was about £2.40. It seems to have taken a huge leap.0
