rockin_plumber, you beat me to it. I was about to write the same but you already did.
OH is a plumber and he gets quite annoyed about those things. He says, new toilets don't need them and old ones are designed to use a lot of water. If you use a save-a-flush you often end up flushing twice as it didn't go down the first time, therefore wasting even more water.
The only way to save water is to have a new modern, water saving cistern.He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
