yes but..when i looked into this, you couldnt use them before 10am i think it was..so no good whatsoever for me as most of the time i'm on either the 7.30 or 9.30 trainBudget for Jan/Feb £240 per 4 weeks
Week 1-£52  Week 2-£75
Week 3-£60.66
Week 4-£29.98 Total=£217.58
w/c 18th Feb: £6.500 -
You can use before 10am its just subject to a minimum fare (£8 Single, £16 return).
Granted, you would have to commute a fair distance to see any benefit on a daily basis, but they can be used.0 -
I've used them before 8am before

Some companies allow you to use them before 10am on any journey DURING THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS. I know when I used to commute from maidenhead to paddington (FGW?) they let me have the discount during the school hols.0

i never had a problem using it before 10.
while on the subject, i just lost my 5 year card from HSBC. i dont have a receipt but i do have a scan of the card. Do you think there's a chance i'll get another one?
if not, how much trouble will i get in if i get caught using a copy of my orignial? What's it going to be, eh?0 -
The railcard can be used any time of day although is subject to minimum fares on certain ticket types during the morning peak, these are as previously stated £8 on the singles and £16 on the returns. Depending on the distance you are travelling this might not be a problem.
The minimum fares don't apply at weekends, bank holidays and during July & August.
If you're commuting on a daily basis then a season ticket may be better value
Also a useful one, Young Persons Railcard holders can travel at any time using Saver tickets on Virgin Trains.0 -
aah ok..i apologise for that, that must have been what it was then, my return fair-before 9.30 is just over £9 so it wouldnt be worth it..Budget for Jan/Feb £240 per 4 weeks

also if you get a solo card from Natwest (under 18's) you are entitled to get the young persons card for £15 through a link they give you.
BUT when i did this during the Summer it did not arrive for 3 months after numerous complaints my branch gave me £15 and head office gave me £30 but only ever sent me a letter saying they were looking into my complaint. Further letters and emails have not been replied to. I just found £30 from customer relations one day! :j
ooo another one. during august to october usually. natwest give students a FREE 3 YEAR RAILCARD DISCOUNT CARD if they open their student account with them. all you need is an NUS card or a letter saying you have been accepted at the uni.... obviously its not on offer at the mo.
hope this helps people

You can usually get these free when opening a student bank account. You might have to check which banks though because different banks have different offers available. I opened a student account in 2003 with HSBC and had the option of having £50 or a young person's railcard.. which was worth £300! I took the railcard option
and I use it a lot as I travel home or up north. It's still valid until Sep 2008!
I think Natwest might be doing these now, because I saw an ad on tv a while ago, these offers are normally around September time when students start uni. So that's the best time to apply. 0
