Hi Folks,

I am currently updating my regular savings thread and I have just noticed on the Skipton website that they have a new easy access account paying 3.05%. I cannot find another thread about this account and it is not yet on the MSE Savings page. (Edit: it is on that page on the "spreading cash for safety" section.)

This could be a handy account for people who want do not have £50,000 for the Birmingham Midshires' 3.2% account and who do not like Santander (their eSaver Issue 4 pays a decent 3.1%). Alternatively, this could be a good account for people who are trying to spread their savings around for safety reasons.

The account details are as follows:

Skipton Online Bonus Saver

3.05% gross pa/AER variable including 1.55% bonus for the first 12 months. After 12 months this will revert to an Online Saver with an annual rate of 1.50% gross pa/AER variable.
  • Easy access meaning you can make as many withdrawals as you like without penalty
  • A 1.55% bonus interest rate for the first 12 months (from the date you open your account)
  • Minimum opening & operating balance of £1,000
  • Maximum investment £1,000,000
  • Minimal single withdrawal of or deposit of £1
  • Sole and joint account(s) allowed
  • Investments allowed by debit card, internal transfer from another online account, standing order or BACS payment online
  • Withdrawals permitted (online only)
All the best,
SS2

I am not sure that this account is new. I opened one in September.

I believe it is new, as stated on their website.
I moved a substantial amount from them a few months ago, as their best easy access rate at the time was 2.5%

Well, like evenasus, I thought it was new because it has "NEW" in red letters on the Skipton BS website.

However, looking at the Skipton interest rate page, it has been around since 13th January 2012 and the additional terms and conditions pdf is dated 24/08/11.

buffman, as you have had this account for a while, what do you think? Was it easy to open? Is it easy to operate?

If Santander make any more errors on my account then I might shift my easy access money to this Skipton account instead.

I wasn't aware of this account, but I see that it does - at least now - get a mention on that page if you find Specialised Alternatives/Spreading cash for safety and click on "See full list of accounts".

It was very easy to open and fund. However, I have not yet made any withdrawls.
  • I opened one of these accounts a couple of weeks ago with no problems at all. You can't make any withdrawals for the first two weeks (I think it is) for 'security reasons' - but that is not an issue in my case, but might be worth bearing in mind.

I've had this account for a while now.

Payments are made by bank transfer (FPS so the money is in the account within 2hours)

Withdrawals again are easy and made to a designated bank account.

Fast Payment System again, so the money is in your account very soon.

Just keep an eye on the anniversary as the rate drops after a year
