washing machine taking over 6 hours to complete a cycle!

Options
as it says in the title, my washing machine has been on since 10 this morning and is still at it. It is progressing around the dial, albeit at a snail's pace. It did something similar yesterday, although I didn't actually time it. I'm just using the cycles I normally use and haven't pressed the button for an extra rinse or anything like that.

Anyone got any idea of what could possibly be causing this?

Do you have another programme you can put your machine on, it must be costing you a blummin' fortune.

Cant help with the reasoning though, sorry

sorry don't have a clue but i'm sure espresso will be along in a min to give you an answer (that's of course as long as they've finished doing the washing up & switched the washing machine on)
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

I've tried it on 2 different cycles. The one I'm using today is usually quicker than the one I used yesterday but it doesn't seem to be working out that way!

I hadn't even though of the electricity costs

From the info posted I would guess a partial blockage in the filter/waste pipe, so the machine is taking much longer to expel the water before it can progress to the next stage in the cycle.

It seems to be slow to start also, and makes different noises when it starts. Plus I'm not sure it is heating the water up.

If it is a blockage is that difficult/expensive to put right?

    A couple of other possibilities:

If it has an older, mechanical controller, the gears can wear so that it fails to rotate properly, but still does so intermittently.

Another is a partially blocked water inlet. Almost all washing machine supply pipes have a small filter built into the connector that attaches to the household pipework. This one should be very simple to check.

Yes an ineffective heater element/thermostat could also cause slow operation. You should easily be able to check the machines filter (most have them) or check how fast water is pumped out when it at that part of the cycle. Can't really comment on repair cost, as you don't know what is wrong with it yet,
