I looked for three years near me and then gave up..some are stiill for sale with 200k asking prices..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

rightmove have plots with planning permission for sale listed. you can always do you own research. decide where you would like to live and then get out there and do some door knocking and research. have a look on aerial photos and see what property's may have an area of garden that you could potentially build something on. it may take longer but it could be cheaper rather than paying for a plot that already has planning permission. have a look on ebuild.co.uk

its a great self build resource and they have a forum and you should get some more pointers there about sourcing a plot.

Thanks mate,I have gone round my area. Made a note of big gardens.I intend to find out who owns them.I also called the council to find out if they have lands. Cheeky Council official tried to sell me an old GP surgery

What's your budget? Plots round here are typically £200k+.

Theres a plot on Rightmove Balsall Common, think it comes under Solihull MBC (commuter village) for 75,000 which has full planning for a Bungalow.

Also if you type in commercial property to Rightmove it brings up plots for sale (sorry if you already know this)

Plus I live on a feeder road into an old council estate where the majority of the houses were built to last and are on big plots. Most took advantage of the Right to buy so there are an even mix of owner occupiers and rented. I have noticed that there have been a few houses built on land that has no use. The latest one was approved in the garden alongside the owners home and has now been built. A lot of people dont want huge plots of garden to tend.

I know most people on here would not choose to live on an estate but if you do your homework and find a good one that has pockets of land available dont discount asking for planning. Hope this helps
