August family holiday - where in Europe??

I am not permitted to take leave during the Olympics/Paralympics.
This leaves the gap in the middle! 13th August for about 2 weeks. Family of 2 adults and 3 kids, we have been to Italy and love the beach and heat, usually we fly and stay at a Canvas Holidays mobile home.
This year I thought we could drive somewhere, but I am concerned its a long way to Italy!
Where can we go in France, thats got the heat and the things for us to do! We usually do exploring one day and beach the next ....
Does it get warm in France? Is it good value?
If we do drive we would spend a couple of days to get there.

  • Anywhere South of the Loire and the weather is generally good. Obviously the further South the warmer. We had mid thirties on the Med coat of France in May a few years ago, and mid thirties in August in the Ardeche and also the dordogne.

Depends what sort of holiday you are looking for. For 2 weeks, we'd drive anywhere in France as it's realistically only 2 overnighters to the Med, one if you live in the South of the UK. Have a look at the eurocamp or Canvas website, the following regions will be nice, weatherwise:

Dordogne -South Westish -rivers, castles, medieval villages, outdoor pursuits, canoing
Ardeche and Auvergne -rivers, river beaches, gorges, scenery, bastide towns, Roman stuff, outdoot pursuits
Languedoc and Rousillion -beaches, nowhere near as busy as the Riviera, Roman stuff, flatter than the Ardeche
Riveiera and Provence -chockbloc in August.
Vendee south -smallish seaside resorts, busier, lots of English families.

We love the Dordogne, Ardeche and Languedoc ourselves, they have something for all the family. We've been going to France every year, sometimes twice for the last 10 years or so now, so please feel free to message me for more info!
