Hi,
Hope this is in the right place!!
I brought a Tom Tom for my father in law from Currys website on the 4th of December 2006. He lives in Bolton (im in London) and did not get his present until Boxing Day. When he went to use the machine he found that an error message appeared on the screen.
I had the receipt in London and was travelling up on the 22nd January. The same day I took the machine to Curry's in Bolton who said that after 28 days I can't get a refund or exchange and that I need to deal with Tom Tom direct.
After arguing I gave up and called Tom Tom who finally agreed to see the machine. My father in law sent the machine off and it was returned one week later minus the card which holds all the maps.
He called them and was told that one would be sent in the post in 5 days time. This never arrived.
He called them again and was told that these are now out of stock and they will send one once they get them in stock. No time frame was given.
Sorry for the long story but where do I stand legally and what should I do next as I want a refund?
Does anyone have any contact details of MD. CEO's etc for these companies?
Thanks is advance

Currys are wrong. They are liable under the Sale of Goods Act for faulty goods.
There is only a short timescale to reject faulty goods for a full refund, usually 2-3 weeks in this sort of case, after this the company are entitled to repair or replace the goods within a reasonable time (this is not defined in law, it tends to depend on the product and how "necessary" it is).
I'm afraid I can't elaborate much as dinner is nearly ready but I am sure someone will be along to explain what the next steps should be!0
