Rights are one thing -neighbours who will look out for your property when you are not there (especially when it's vunerable cos it's empty) or take deliveries etc are something else. If the OP is planning on eventually living in the house herself -maybe just maybe starting an avoidable war with the neighbours is not the cleverest move.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
sounds like you are going to be moving into a home with a pretty unreasonable neighbour.
Personally id pop over there this morning and try and sort it out as it isnt nice living next to neighbours you dont get on with. Probably wont do any good but least you have tried. Obviously you can only be nice to people like this to a certain point before just carrying on with the work regardless.Yes we introduced ourselves when we first got the house and he was saying we could borrow toolss and things and he asked if we were putting in heating and replastering we said yes Though he did think it was odd when he saw the flue for the boiler and said oh not a mass produced combi boiler! We kind of shrugged it off and said well that's just the way it is nowadays!
We have had no problems from the lady next door the other side she just asks how we are getting on and asks if she can see it when it's finnished
My oh is concerned about working round there today but I've said we can't let him have his own way when we've done nothing wrong0 -

You mean neighbors that are reasonable?
Any reasonable neighbour would understand the house was being renovated. There will be some noise.
Line needs drawn now. Not later, when pushed.
Being reasonable works both ways.0 -
were you informed by the seller that the neighbours are unfriendly? your seller should disclose that kind of info,if you're not happy sue the seller and move on to somewhere nice with understanding neighbours.Everyone knows when you first by property you want to make it nice and some noisy work may be involved,i feel your neighbour is being unreasonable.0

In the evenings we are only there till half six at the latest when we do go around we don't go every evening. my oh finishes work at 3.30 5mins away from where we live we do tidying up measuring For new things painting or a bit of sanding
Both neighbours are retired so are in all the time man about 60 lady bout 75 or so
We have caught the man hanging over our fence looking in our garden also we are aware some one has opened our back garden gate and been in as the latch was put back different and the bricks moved that were propped up against it we have now put a padlock on0 -
They sound way too nosy for my liking, were you told of this before buying?0

No the house was empty before buying house was rented previously we met the man when just bought house I thought lonely old man but oh was not keen from the off set0

even so you should by law have been informed about the neighbours, question your solicitor as to why you were not informed,as if you do continue to live there this problem may arise again only next time it'll be you being sued by the new owners.worth asking about as i doubt you'll get much peace living there. No the house was empty before buying house was rented previously we met the man when just bought house I thought lonely old man but oh was not keen from the off set0 -
Sounds to me that your neighbour is being bang out of order.
I have just bought a new house and am doing exactly what you are, working evenings and doing the noisy stuff on Saturdays and considerate work on Sundays ie painting. My neighbours can only be described as a godsend, we have exchanged numbers, they have offered to keep an eye out whilst I'm not there and the homeowners across the street even pop over offering tea and coffee etc.
What I always tend to do is just politely give the neighbours a heads up when I'm doing anything particularly noisy, like when I was having two openings cut into a wall.
Really sorry to hear you are in this situation, your first home and the renovation that goes with it should be a really exciting journey not hell on earth.0 -
I don't think a man in his 60's is serious in his threats to kill is he? He is probably incredibly irritated that the peace and quiet he has become accustomed to has been shattered by 'new' people and he probably thinks it will get worse when you move in.
I would give him a quick knock, with a cheery, really don't want to fall out with you over this but the sooner we get it done the sooner we can move in and everything will be lovely.
People don't like change!0
