Potato issue.. Maris Piper and Maris Pier
Hiya.
Dippy question here.
I ordered some seed potatoes from a catalogue as a starter collection. They send the tubers and looking quickly, I thought they made a mistake and sent me one mislabelled pack.
In fact, there was one of Maris Piper and one of Maris Pier. I've now wrongly labelled one of them in the eggbox where they are chitting. And one is maincrop and the other second early, so I need to know which is which.
One variety is sandish colour and the other is more brick colour.
Could anyone tell me which one is which?:D
Many thanks.

I've checked my copy of The Good Potato Guide by Lawrence Hills, Maris Peer are white round, ovals and Maris Piper are white ovals. My guess would be that the fatter ones are Maris Peer.
Since I can't post links, if you go to jbaseedpotatoes you can search and find photos of each.
Good luck, I hope you can figure it out.:)0 -
Look on the left hand side of this site and click to see photos of the various potatoes.

Damn. Neither look like the picture.:rotfl:, but Maris Peer is paler than Piper, so I'll go with that.

I've just been going through all the seeds i've got to see which i could start planting tomorrow and checked the potatoes that i've bought. I ve bought 3 lots, Maris Peer; Charlotte; and Sharpes Express (99p each in Home & Bargain), and i realised those photos on the website are what the potatoes will look like when they're grown, they're nothing like that now.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
