  • We bought a large dresser from them a few years ago, wasn't sure how would get it home (we were out for the day 70 miles away, lol)

Spoke to the store manager who said no problem I can deliver it for expenses, I can do that tonight...

We agreed, paid, went home and true to his word after the shop shut for the day he and his son drove it to my house. At 9pm on a Saturday night.:j

Should we have haggled over the petrol cost? Not given extra for a drink? We also made them a cuppa and let them use the loo.

Least we could have done, I think. Brilliant customer service.

So I take it you also don't give money to charities then?

Haggling is fine - but I don't think a charity shop is the right place to do it!

These shops (love them or hate them) provide funds to charities that many of us or our families will have benefitted from unwittingly.

Nobody is forcing you to buy the stuff they sell so if you are not hapy with the price or the quality - just walk away.
  • Personally, I feel if they are running a high street business to make money, then they should be treated like any other business. Which means you don't haggle, and if they are overpriced you shop elsewhere.

Why shouldn't you haggle with a high st business?
I often do, and whilst I may not always get money taken off the selling price, it's not uncommon to get a freebie or two chucked in as a sweetener for the deal.

I work at a local charity shop.

Recently we had a collection of 4 old small Dinky toys which the internet told me were worth about £10 each. One of the staff had priced them at £5 each and put them out in the shop.

Along comes this old guy and sees the toys, picked them up and came over to the cash desk..." Ill give you a fiver for the lot" he says. I say "They are worth £30 to £40, getting them for £20 is a real bargain!" he says (as he stomps away) " I thought you were a bloody charitry shop, not an antique shop!! " and leaves.

The joys of working in a charity shop (I took them off the shelf after that and sold them for the charity on ebay for about £40!)

    - The flatscreen TV/ monitor I just bought that I asked in advance if it worked, was told 'No it doesnt sir, thats why were selling it' (Ha bloody ha) just got it home on the bus (Admittedly its not heavy, its 15") and the PC input doesnt work...

Hold on, am I missing something here. You bought a monitor that you were told was faulty... and you're upset that when you got it home it was faulty?

If it was so over priced people wouldn't shop there, they would in turn reduce prices as any business would too. The fact they charge so much must mean they think they can sell goods at that price sure the savvy shop might decide not too

I think the salesman said it in a sarcastic manner
