Brake pads (parts + labour)?

Mines had 2 sets of front pads, and 3 sets of back pads in 100,000 miles.
Only new disks were on the front, with one of the sets of pads at 80,000 miles
The back are still the factory ones.0 -
I personally change the discs and pads when pads are needed but as they say the choice is yours.
You cannot put a price on safety.......
Rubbish!
There's no need whatsoever to change discs for the sole reason the pads are gone.
You only change discs when they need changing, the OP doesn't even have an advisory for this work from a recent MOT.

Braking is converting momentum into heat, and there are two parts involved: discs and pads. The sacrificial part is the pad, not the disc - the main reason is cost, as obviously you would prefer the sacrificial part to cost less as you need to change them more frequently.
Each set of discs should easily last at least as long as two sets of pads."Retail is for suckers"

about 5 years hard labour seeing as you dont seem to be maintaining your car but using the mot as a warning,
dont forget your toothbrush
auto too,frightening
I got advisory for pads and disks for 2 years running, I checked them myself after each advisory and whenever I had new tyre's fitted (better than standing around looking like a plank), I found them to be in fairly good condition, with just a tiny lip on the brake discs.....
I had them changed before the MOT on the 3rd year. When removed the mechanic told me they probably had another year left on them.
So I had at least 4 years left on them when I got the first advisory......
And just to point out to the posts above, the discs will need to be changed if the pads have worn them unevenly or they've been scored by dirt/grit stuck to the pad.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Why on earth would you change the discs. If you're concerned about the discs then get the current disc thickness measured and compare it to the minimum thickness stated in the car's manual. The discs on my car are good for about 4 sets of pads. I've never actually changed the rear discs on my car since I bought it in 2008 and they are still fine, though they are getting low. I've changed the fronts once.
Only reasons to change discs at the same time as pads is if they're actually worn, or if you are a muppet who let the pads get ground down to the metal which causes the discs to get scored.
As for brake fluid, it's absorption of moisture that causes the brake fluid to wear out and the amount of braking you do doesn't really affect this. Only reasons to change it early are if you've been driving it far too hard and have boiled your brake fluid, or you've got a leak that's letting water in and/or fluid out.0 -
in an auto the only way to slow you down is brake pads0

And older auto boxes (as well as most modern ones) have this handy little lever that lets you do this manually.0

get a grip here
im talking proper retard ation
not mimsing to buy a daily hate
Maybe you dont drive much of whats available - you get massive retardation when say dropping from 5th to 2nd (as can happen on a Jatco Select Shift 5 speed as used by Fords in the 2000s under even medium braking) - they can actually slow so much you have to manually keep it up a gear with the shift buttons to stop the abrupt deceleration.0
