How much board do you charge your kids?
Not how much did you pay your parents.
Not how much WILL you charge.
Not how much do you THINK they should pay.
But how much do YOU charge YOUR kids NOW?
Just curious?

When my daughter lived with us she paid £60 a week, all in, including washing and ironing.
It was about 25% of her take home wage.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
My daughter used to pay £30 a week which we were happy with. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Son paid £200 a month up to two weeks ago when he moved into his own house. That included everything. His monthly take home pay at the start was £1200 so it left him plenty to do what he wanted with and even more when he got promotion/pay rises/bonuses. It was never meant to be a realistic figure, just a gesture as an adult to contribute and learn that you don't get anything for nothing. Now he's paying a mortgage and bills he realises I was not robbing him blind.0

When the 2 oldest were at college and worked at Tesco on a weekend I charged them 30 quid a month each which was about 10 - 15% of their wages. Now DS1 is away at Uni, DS3 is at college but can't find a part-time job at the moment so DS2 is the only one of them bringing in any money. He earns about 600 a month and I charge him 100 - don't think that's unreasonable, he manages to save quite a bit and has more money in the bank than I do!Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

We charge our 2 working dd's 20% of their take-home pay.
We are all happy with this arrangement. Both have lived away from home for 3 & 2 years so have a good understanding of how much bills etc are. They appreciate how fortunate they are & both see that they are in a position as well to save for homes of their own. DD3 also sees this from her sisters paying so knows she won't get a free ride and will be expected to pay a % of any salary she has when she is working full time.0 -
DS has just started his first proper job and earns £200 a week - at the moment he gives me £30.:jFlylady and proud of it:j0

£50 per week for keep and he agreed to give me a further £50 a week which is saved on his behalf so that he cant waste it. That comes to £400 out of his pay so that when he moves out and has to pay rent etc then he will already be used to not having £400 so it wont be a shock.Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

I never paid board as I was in full time education until 21 (lived at home whilst at uni) and moved out the month uni finished. I offered as I worked from 14 but my mum said she would rather I saved it (which I did). However my now husband practically moved into my mum's a few weeks after us getting together and paid my mum £20 a week. His washing was still done at his actual home (his mum's) but he showered, ate etc at my mum's. FWIW his 2 brothers (both adults- one working full time) still live at his mum's and pay nothing0

16 year old, just left school last July, hoping to join the Army so been receiving CB for him until now, currently not receiving anything - no CB, CTC due to stop, so we're keeping him. IF he gets a job, it's agreed that he pays us 30% of his take home, saves 30% (in theory) and has 30% for day to day living and spends. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
