in Credit cards
Hi,
I have a Tesco CC with a 0% deal ending soon so after reading Martins balance transfer guide decided to call Natwest who I have my current account with to see if they could offer me a deal to save another credit card application.
I told them i had a tesco cc and was looking to transfer the balance. They said I had only one cc with Natwest and they havent got any promotional offers at the moment but I could apply for their 20 months 0% deal Master Platinum. I agreed and was transfered to a different department, halfway through the application process the advisor said they would put me on hold and then hung up on me. They called back and apologized advised the application went through fine and asked for the details for the credit card i wanted to transfer from. As soon as I said Tesco she said Tesco is part of RBS you cant transfer from that. So basically they have done a credit search well knowing that I wouldnt be able to transfer the money.
I worry because I dont know
a) if on my credit file the application will show as 'cancelled by applicant' or if it looks like Ive been rejected a credit card.
b) I dont know what this will do for in a few years when I apply for a mortgage
c) if theres a way I can get the search removed from my record.
d) if by natwests logic ive used up my 2 credit card limit so wont be able to apply again for a year or so
So any advise will be greatly appreciated.
I have now filled in an application with virgin, fingers crossed no more hiccups.
Thanks

As you voluntarily asked for the card and gave agreement to the search then no it won't be removed.
Does the Nat west card offer an option to transfer cash into your bank account?
If it does then transfer sufficent to your account and pay Tesco from there - if not then unless your credit history is iffy one search will not count against you.0 -
I wonder if the information given to you is out of date. While Tesco credit cards used to be provided by RBS it is my understanding that Tesco Bank is now a completely separate organisation (the FSA website shows them as having their own banking license), and looking through the Tesco CC information available online I can see no reference at all to RBS.0

Having a closed credit card in your credit record is not a problem. It will not show as "Cancelled" - in a few weeks it will show as "Settled" and could even be a positive thing for your credit record.0

I agree with agrinall, I think they're out of date with their information. AFAIK there is no longer an affiliation. Plus according to this site, Tesco CC balances can be transferred to NatWest/RBS cards.0
