equifax no acount numbers

hello everyone,
i wonder if anyone could give me a little advice here, i am quite a little bargain hunter and always shop around for the best deals, recently a few friends have re-claimed quite a bit of money on mis-sold ppi and suggested i try, however they have used companies that charge for doing it for you.
so i came onto the site and looked through the guides and sent off to equifax for my credit history, it came back with no account numbers on though, just dates and credit limits / loan amounts.
so what is my next move, do i need to write off to each lender and card company and say "hi i had a loan/ credit card with you, from .... to ..... for ..... can i have my terms and conditions for the agreement please?"
i had thought the a/c numbers would have been on them, or is that a little naive of me?
has anyone else been in this predicament and come out of it with a succesfull conclusion, i feel like i have virtually nothing to go on,
thanks:)
