Best Supplier outside of the "Big 6"

I'm currently with first utility using one of their smart meters. Love their smart meters, hate their customer service and their deferred cashback scheme.

I'm keen to stay away from the big boys and wandered whether anyone can recommend a good alternative supplier.

Ovo came out first for customer service in the recent Which review. FU were bottom of the independents.
Suggest you hit the comp sites with your annual kWh figures and see which of the independents is competitive for your region and usage.

Ovo are good but they expect you always too be in credit and are very efficient at raising your dd. So good I am £423.00 in credit and thats just coming to the end of the winter period.

Also very slow at refunding money.

Others will no doubt disagree but I can only comment on my own experiences.

Ovo are a good company very small though, not so sure they would be able to rectify so easy if something went wrong.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Ovo are one of the largest independents, around 70,000 customers. Why do you think a larger company would rectify a problem more easily? If so, why are the big 6 at the bottom of that same survey for resolving complaints?

    This.

For all of Ovo's acknowledged strengths and customer service they still don't have a system to automatically refund you any credit balance when you leave.

You have to request the refund, though they seem quick to do it then.

Sadly, my parents left a sizeable credit balance with them for a year (after leaving), that I am only just getting around to claiming back for them..

    Regards

I would make sure you get the 3% that it should have been earning in that year.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

+1 for Ovo. Credit refunds need to be requested although in my experience these have only taken a few days to arrive in my bank account.
