Unspecified items - Home Insurance

Renewed with M and S last year mainly due to their up to £4000 unspecified item cover as well as their 0% monthly payments, this years policy unchanged has gone up by £80.

Quoted through AXA who underwrites the above and got a quote of £360 which is 100 cheaper than M and S with unspecified items up to £7500.

Question is are there any other companies which offer large unspecified amounts before i purchase the above cover?

Yes, there are plenty of companies who can provide high limits for unspecified items (with a single article limit - varies from insurer to insurer). If you have high sums insured for contents & jewellery, you will probably need a better quality policy which is more flexible.

I would recommend that you obtain quotations based on the exact cover that you require, then decide which is the one that best matches your needs - in terms of cover & premium

Axa was £10,000 last time I looked, Hiscox's standard 505 is £15,000 and their high value home 505 is £25,000 for pairs/sets (still £15k for single), Direct Line Select is £10,000 (no idea how the rest of the product is), Aviva Distinct have a few different limits depending on the item classification such as art is £15,000

There are many who write business for the MNW and HNW space which will have high limits, they tend (though not always) to have a generally better policy for example they cover matching pairs/ sets so would replace all your kitchen if one part is damaged and irreplaceable with a matching item. They do also tend to have a few other bits that are of more dubious use like Hole In One insurance.
