Redundancy and reapplying for job

Hi,
My husband got his 4 week notice of redundancy this morning through the post. At present there are 2 people job sharing (1 working 20 hours and another working 16 hours) and has been told there is only enough funding for one 20 hour post. The letter says he can reapply for the new position from the 9th of March. It also says that his employment will end on the 30th.
If the new position doesn't start until after the 30th then is he entitled to redundancy pay, if he gets the new position after this date will he have to pay redundancy pay back because he is working for the same employer? Also will he get any redundancy pay if he is successful in reapplying for his job before 30th March as it will be a new job description and contract?

If he is on the 20-hour contract now and applies for the new position and is successful in securing it, there would have to be a gap of at least a week (including two Saturdays) for his employment not to be continuous.
If they can pay him till the end of March (presumably the end of the funding financial year) and have secured funding for the new position (presumably from the start of the new funding financial year (1 April), there would be no gap.
Repaying redundancy money if there were a gap, would depend on whether it was just the statutory scheme or an organisation enhanced one. The former would not need to be repaid, the latter (at least the enhanced part) could well be reclaimed but it depends on the employer's rules.
The change in job description etc would not entitle him to redundancy pay if he were continuing with the same employer.0 -
Also the employer has a duty to look for, and offer, other employment within the organisation as an alternative to redundancy, if such employment is available. So if there is other work available the most likely scenario is that, if successful, he will be offered the ne role instead of being made redundant (in which case he will not be entitled to the redundancy package)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
