reckon its over 90 - just an educated guess mind you - not very technical - thanks for comp xx0

I'll try and put some maths behind the question to work out roughly the answer.
They have put £20 of petrol into it, according to (can't post links), the average cost per litre of petrol on the 1st of March was £1.37/ltr.
That means that they put around 14.5 litres of petrol in the car.
Now (can't post links) website states that the car does 24mpg but other sources say between 25-30mpg. As I do not drive I'm a bit unsure as to whether this uses the American Gallon or the Imperial Gallon so I will calculate both.
If we use the value in-between 24mpg and 30mpg then we get 27mpg.
14.5 litres = 3.83 gallons or 3.19 UK gallons
3.83 gallons at 27mpg = 103.41 miles Using US gallon
3.19 gallons at 27mpg = 86.13 miles Using UK gallon
Now my maths may be slightly off a bit as I've used estimated figures for the miles per gallon but one can assume it is roughly around those values.
If I've done something wrong somewhere could someone correct me
P.S First post on the forum so can't post links to sources0 -
Thank you so much MattKC for working that out!
There will be another competition starting tomorrow which I will try and remember to post - I don't really want to put the final date as the people who enter by end date will miss out.
If anyone sees it please post.0 -
Hi Claira ,thanks for the comp ,if you were to change the end date till the last comp end date and then pop a link into weeklies it will not be missed each week if you were to forget as someone would see it and bump when new comp is live, and also those who comp by end date would not miss out if it were there as well. It's totally up to you but if you think you may forget that is probably the best way to go.

Thank you so much Chelsea1969 that was what I wasn't sure about. I have changed the end date to the 19th and put it into weeklies just as it is above.
One thing I have noticed is the final end date is 19/03 but at the end of T&Cs it says:
The grand prize draw will be drawn on 2nd April 2012.
If anyone thinks the end date is better being the 2nd/04 I will change it - the T&CS are a bit confusing!0 -
New one up today which ends on the 8th march
You can’t have a motoring challenge without a good old race against time. For our second challenge, we put the Motor’s Motor through the test by accelerating from 0 to 50 miles per hour along the track as quickly as possible – but how quickly do you think our Triumph Dolomite managed it?
Ours came to be in 1981 and is driven by a Rover V8 3.5 litre engine, with an automatic gearbox. One of the world’s fastest cars to date, the Bugatti Veyron super-sport, can smash 0-60 in the blink of an eye – little over 2 seconds, in fact.
But what time do you think our classic Motors Motor managed 0-50 in?To increase your chances of winning the big bucks, just play every challenge.

I found a link here http://www.british-car-auctions.co.uk/default.aspx?page=5400 which says that a 1981 Triumph Dolomite sprint with a 2 litre engine does 0-60 in under 9 seconds so I assume that a 3.5 litre engine would be less than 10 secondsPositivity is the key to success0

Last week's answer -
Fuel Challenge: 29/02/2012 – 05/03/2012
The Motors Motor managed to travel 95.1 miles on just £20 of petrol before breaking down.
The correct answer was 91-100 miles.

"Ours came to be in 1981 and is driven by a Rover V8 3.5 litre engine"
On this page
http://www.autosnout.com/Car-Performance-Statistics.php?Triumph+Dolomite+Sprint+-+[1973]&EditionID=553
Which is a triumph dolomite sprint with a 2 litre engine has the following
Performance:
This overall package propels the Triumph Dolomite Sprint - [1973] to a top speed of 116mph and can reach 0-60mph in 9.1 seconds.
so the 3.5 v8 could be less than 10 seconds - just my thoughts
Sorry just seen lizd31s post above which confirms this :embarasseI woke up last night to find the ghost of Gloria Gaynor standing at the foot of my bed.
At first I was afraid.......then I was petrified.…0
