Vent Homebase

Hi all

Just a little heads up on costings at Homebase which might be worth double checking before you shop there.

Today i wanted to purchase some satin gloss, did a price comparison before i left the house and Homebase came up £10.97 and B&Q came up at £11.99 Great i thought i will get it from HB.

Went to their store near me to see it on the shelf for £14.99:eek:

I took a tin over to the help desk who had a look on their website to see if i was right in what i was stating and it clearly showed it at £10.97. Now they did do a price match which im not complaining about but when i came to the checkout to actually pay she scanned it and it came up as the £14.99, she put in the code and changed it, What concerns me though is the fact that had i not done the check this morning it would have cost nearly £5 more, i have emailed them got a standard reply and awaiting more, Just wonder how many other things i have bought from there at one price when actually their website states its a lot lower

There is no obligation for a store to sell items at the same price in store as they do on their website. The price match that they offered you sounds more like a good will gesture - you got the paint at the price they charge online without having to pay for delivery or wait for it to arrive so I would call this good customer service.

You'll often find things in Homebase more expensive than the identical item in Argos. Given that Argos & Homebase are the same company my money saving advice would be this; check Argos on price 1st before travelling to a Homebase store.

The website can charge as little or as much as they want. They have no obligation to have the price the same as in store.

maybe if you'd reserved it on line for in store collect?

Quite common really. That's why Morrisons in Sheffield charges 2p a litre less than my local Morrisons for unleaded.

You reserve your unleaded online and collect in store?

Halfords do the same if you order online to pickup in-store some things are a lot cheaper than buying in-store, and they won't do a price match either. Seems like a weired state of affairs but there you are!

    That doesn't work either.

My mum had reserved something from the Leytonstone High Rd branch (she lives nowhere near but was visiting me this weekend so was happy to travel to the store to collect). She was very disappointed to find that the items she had reserved had been sold to someone else the previous day. It's not great practice, but these things happen.

What made things a great deal worse was the attitude of the so-called manageress. She was rude, defensive and said "it's not my fault, I wasn't here yesterday". A simple apology would have done!

Another customer in the store witnessed this and regaled my mum with further tales of the incompetence of the manageress. I suggested to my mum that the manageress sounded young and inexperienced, but was told that she was in her forties, so I just think she's not cut out for retail management. Although I've got no problem with the firm, I'd recommend that if you're anywhere in the East End and value customer service, you give the E11 branch a miss and head to Walthamstow (Forest Rd E17) instead.
