Would like some advice please on what used car to get? we bought a renault grand scenic last july and have had nothing but probs with it, spent £1200 in repairs and there is till stuff to be sorted so basically just had enough and getting rid!

We were looking at the toyota avensis as we need a big boot, probably an 05 or an 06, budget about £4500-£5000, but wary as we dont want to be landed with another car with lots of probs.

Not sure what other cars would be suitable, so any advice would be great :D

Thanks

Most cars are suitable Tbh what you need to watch out for is you're not buying a tarted up lemon. Invest in an AA car check before buying if you don't know much about them. Read fan forums if you're interested and you quickly spot what the weakeness is on each car.

    Plus stay away from renault:)

What were the problems for £1200?

Learnt the hard way to stay away from renault  we didnt research the scenic at all, just saw it had good space and that was it, if we had done proper research we would never have bought it, had a toyota before and never had any probs with it

Yes we have looked into doing the aa car check so thats something we are doing

We had to replace the panel on the scenic, dealer tried to rip us off with the price though, had to go through renault customer services to get it sorted so just paid £150, had to get spring replaced, numerous other probs as well but cant recall those just now, its been in and out of the garage since december, just got car back a couple of days ago, that was £430 bill, told us back brakes had seized, new parts would be over £300 but said it would be good for another 4 months

Took the car a drive into town and came up a warning with the brakes with the stop warning flashing up, back to garage to fix yet again, just need a reliable car, my husband is confident with driving but even he has said he just doesnt want to drive the scenic any more

The car you are interested in is a favourite of private hire and they are dab hands at swapping bits to make a car a low mileage minter
do your homework carefully before splashing the cash

I have really good MOT garage, when I wanted a second hand car I asked what would be best. I was told to buy Nissan or Honda as they said they hardly ever go wrong. I went with the Nissan and got a Micra, only need a small car, the garage was right been very lucky with it (touch wood) think I have had it about 4 years now.

    Good luck
