mobi file from laptop to kindle

First off apologies if this is a repeat question but ive searched the forum and cant seem to get my head round this.
I got a loan;) of a disc that has a lot of books on it. Ran the disc and done as I was told ie: drag a title to the kindle folder on the laptop and had the kindle connected via usb. thats it done i thought but it wont transfer from the folder on laptop to the kindle.
Next to the file name in the folder its says file is a 'mobi' file.
What am i doing wrong here? and how can i get the book from laptop folder to the kindle to read?
Many thanks for any help here please.

    Hi,

the kindle should read the mobi files. Download and use calibre E-book management - it is like your own library and it can connect to your kindle and put books on.
You can even covert files if perhaps there is one that isn't compatible with the kindle.
you can get info on how to use it @ http://calibre-ebook.com/
