Skiing in second half of April

Where's good in Europe? I'm thinking that as winter started late, it may end late but I don't want to take too many chances! We did Finland in the first week of December and were really lucky!

Have a browse at https://www.thomascook.com, if you put in 14 April, you'll get a selection of possibilities, you can then browse the resort guides to find information about conditions.

The higher the resort the better. Its not been a very good start to the season snow wise, fingers crossed that it will be dumping loads in the next few weeks.

Deux Alpes is a high resort in France and Tignes has a glacier at the top which is used in the Summer for skiing. Then there is Zermatt in Switzerland. If a resort offers summer skiing, you can bet your bottom dollar it will have snow in April. Saying that, last years season was really good and I skied in Wagrain Austria which normally has very little snow left at the end of March.

Just found this on The Independent's website:-

"So where's best? Austria offers the most 365-day centres, including Sölden, Tux and Stubai. New lifts at Diablerets in Switzerland and above Alagna in Italy have greatly improved summer operations there, and Zermatt can claim the highest snow park in the world.

But I'd plump for Les 2 Alpes in France. There is an 800m vertical between 2800m and 3600m, and over 400 acres of skiable terrain. Up to 17 lifts are open from 7am to 3pm to get the best of the snow conditions, including the underground funicular Dome Express. There is a good variety of runs and a large terrain park where events, including snowboarding, are staged throughout the summer season"

The summer skiing is not extensive in some of the high resorts. You would probably have about 3-5 lifts/drags open at a time. By about lunch time the snow can get quite slushy.
