I am thinking of getting a smartphone possibly a
BlackBerry® Curve™ 9300 3G
which I can get for
£7.99 pcm (12USD)
with
100 minutes + 500 texts + 500MB Mobile Web
• Unlimited BlackBerry® Messenger + Mail
or Android HTC Salsa or HTC Wildfire S White?
which is
£16.5 pcm (20 USD)
50 mins 500MB 250 Texts
As you can see the Android is a lot more. Is it worth it?
One other thing I really need a phone that is easy to type with.
PLEASE I DO NOT WANT TO START A FLAME WAR.

Have you had a look at either of the phones ?
Ive seen a few blackberry phones and dont like how the keys are small and squahed up whereas the androids have on screen keyboards plus you get a bigger screen with the androids.
Id say get either of the droids but im a droid user myself.0 -
How long are the contracts. For example the wildfire is not all that dear sim free/PAYG. you could probably get a far better deal for mins on either of android or blackberrys with a Sim Only contract. I only pay 10.25 a month for 900 minutes, 3000 texts, 250MB mobile internet. So you can see both are pretty poor on mins/texts
Price up the phones either 2nd hand, 1st hand sim free, 1st hand PAYG, and then after playing with them all, decide which you want, but certainly also consider the contract, contract length and what you're getting for it. I wouldn't do either of those deals.0 -

Got myself a blackberry on contract, used it for about 5 mins and handed it to my son, hated it with a passion.
Bought an HTC Wildfire (the old model) about 18 months ago, and went for a sim only deal, and love it. I know it's out of date now, but I wouldn't go for any phone these days other than an android.
If you can afford to pay the £120 ish up front, then you would probably be better getting a payg phone and having a sim only contract.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

I couldn't get on with the tiny keys on a BB so I switched to Android. I bought a used phone off eBay and then renewed my SIM only deal with Virgin, it gives me 100 minutes talk time, 2500 text messages and 2.5GB data for £6.99 a month on a 30 day rolling contract0

Thanks who are you getting that deal with?
Although you are not getting much mobile internet for that deal.
That' with Vodafone. It's only 250mb, but that's download only. I don't heavily download. I surf on my phone, and randomly (ie rarely) watch video on likes of you tube. I can't see the need to download things on the phone. Surfing is effectively free, with the actual downloading of things (you tube etc) covered in the 250mb.
It's something that you need to find out from each contract you look at. Some companies offer big Data bundles because they count everything in it, some are smaller, but don't count things like Browsing.0 -
I have the HTC wildfire and BB 8520.
The wildfire android, I hate the stupid way it locks the keyboard and how you have to press the power button on top side to unlock it. The touchscreen by default is difficult to type with but using SlideIT app, things were much easier. The browsing was good if the network coverage was good, otherwise it could be poor at times (on t-mobile). The battery life sucks.
Then I got the BB 8520, rubbish inbuilt browser but using opera mini on it, it was so much better for browsing especially when you have bookmarked all your favorite sites so don't have to keep using address bar to type which is not easy. Battery life is awesome, far better than any mobile I have had before.
The BB messenger service works well but I prefer to use direct web access to get to email though its worth having BB email when you are busy. The sound quality of the BB 8520 is better than other mobiles I have used, headphones are good standard (not the design but the sound quality). The media player is ipod-ish so good. The bad is apps can only install onto the inbuit memory on this model. This model is not 3G but it works faster for internet than my wildfire which is 3G (but different networks so probably that). Reception on my end is usually ok for voicecalls but do get some complaints from callers they cannot hear me. The typing may be hard for people to cope with but you can use an app called vlingo which does voice recognition and type what you say.
And another good thing about BB, app installation only requires a browser plugin on PC (not a pc suite program) or directly though mobile.0 -
Android all the way ... you can do more & is open to more 3rd party apps ... never been keen on BB can't see point of BBM when you can have friendly names on messenger (MSN, Yahoo).Proudly Banking & Saving With:

Work had to have a special contract just for myself and a colleague who lives in Kent so we could have working phones.0
