The only result is that I would be destitute before I claimed Council Tax Benefit again

Yes I can fully agree with you on that. I am in the middle of an argument that started off with a simple request from the council to review my CTB. Being disabled, they sent a woman round to take notes, information and photos of the evidence.
She had me 'running' up and down stairs for every bit.
After an hour she said OK she has everything.
I was knackered and spent the rest of the day and night in bed recovering.
A week later she came again for more info. Another hour of up and down stairs for info, another day and night in bed!

Then behold she wanted a 3rd visit for more info. I told her where to go!

Next thing I had a few weeks later was revised CT bills going back to Sept 09 on the basis that I have failed to provide evidence of income and that the CTB claim had been closed.

So now I have a bill of over £3000 to pay!!

Ironically I was on Guaranteed Pension Credit from Sept 09 to March 11 when they closed it down because I didn't comply within a month to supply some info. I couldn't do, the pension company took 2 months to send me the info!
Pension Credit in closing the claim in Mar 11 superseded the decision to award me GPC made in Sept 09!!!

Now waiting for a bill from Pension Credit to repay what I had off them!!

Benefits - a waste of time. If you are fit you are OK, but be disabled and mainly bed ridden you have no chance.

The Council put me in bed for a week at the end as I could not physically run around for them.

I'm shocked the guy on yhe phone at the dwp said ïts good to hear from an honest person once in a while - what a judgemental !!!! - he clearly thinks everyone on benefits are liars.

Maybe he just meant that it was good of me to be double checking everything to be sure I was entitled because I was obviously questioning it about whether I was or not

Most are in my opinion! Even those that claim JSA and who don't put their whole heart and soul in looking for a job, yet tell the Jobcentre that they have done everything possible. And including those that attempt to fit their 'inability' to work around the various descriptors when claiming ESA and say that the worst day is quite a normal day!

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I've just got home, wasn't half as bad as I was expecting. They really put me at ease, I was in about 20 minutes. They read my statement out to the tape recorder for me which explained everything. They said they know the difference between a genuine mistake and intentional fraud, and knew that mine was a genuine mistake. So I have to wait for a payment plan to be set up now, and are giving me a formal caution. They reassured me that the formal caution is between myself and the council, it doesn't go on any crb or criminal records etc.
So thanks again for the help
