Any ideas why a CD should sound perfect when played on my CD player, in car and via DVD player, but when I put it on my laptop to Itunes so I can put it on my Ipod it sounds terrible..all crackly as if the cd is scratched to death..but it isn't....why??

Is it just playing that it sounds bad, or is it actually copying (also called converting in itunes) that makes it sound bad?
If it is just playing, then that sounds more like a hardware issue. If it's fine everywhere else, then your laptop isn't fine. Try playing it in something like Winamp which is free to use, or try just windows media player and see if it plays the same way there.
If it's copying it and sounds terrible on your ipod/iphone/whatever too, then consider trying a free software to just rip to mp3 and copy those over, see if they sound fine. If so itunes is the problem.
Have you tried playing any other audio cd's through itunes (copy or play) to see if they sound bad too?0 -
I did 2 cds, one after the other, I copied the first to Itunes and it plays fine, the other sounds as described above....Debt-free...and staying that way...0

Hello
Sounds like (sorry no pun intended ) a problem I experienced me a few months ago. When I got a new Dell computer and started to rip my CD collection on to it, found a few Cd's like you that sounded awful. But when played in the car were fine, I did a little research via these forums and Google to find that a few years ago some CD's had protection software on them to stop people copying them. For some reason I found out that some computer CD drives will not play/read them ................ But I also found out that for some reason my Toshiba laptop played/ripped them ok.
Until I discovered that my Toshiba played them, I was going to ask a friend to try them on their computer and if they worked rip them onto a blank CD-R and I was going to try and rip that into itunes etc.
Hope this helps
