If the OP is using a paid for VPN service, then the bank maybe seeing multiple customers with differing postal addresses logging in at same time from the same IP address, that maybe the reason for the blocking.0 -

I thought the whole point of VPNs was that you get your own IP (allocated to the country you bought the VPN for).
But your post does raise an interesting point or two - - - perhaps not all VPNs are as private as the P in VPN suggests, and perhaps not all VPNs actually use an IP address that is indeed allocated to the country you expect it to be allocated to?0 -

I don't know much about VPN services. The service I was using was from my university, so although I didn't technically pay a monthly fee for it, the same could still apply.
I would have assumed that each individual user would have their own IP address through a university system, but I could be wrong.0 -

Sounds like you could have been using a service that other student's could have used at the same time, with the same IP address. A VPN is campus-wide (or community-wide, whatever the community is defined as ...anything from yourself only to umpteen people)0 -

If the IP address assigned to your computer is a 10.x.x.x or a 192.168.x.x address its probably be a shared IP address.
A VPN is only private till it gets the endpoint.0 -
All the money sites this included, need some account to bash, but take little account of the fact that there are no good savings rates out there,Santander have the best current account which is also a savings account,it pays 3%,nowhere can you get that on deposit and it is instant access,if you keep £20,000 and pay 2 direct debits you will get about £40 a month interest, which is £480 a year less £24 to run the account, people should give Santander credit, they have taken over a number of banks that were going belly up,they seem to have kept many of the branches open, including 3 in Colchester ,when you read the postings people hold First Direct up as the best well you can do all your Santander banking online if you want or you can go to a branch and talk to staff,Santander systems are much better now ,after all they had to absorb all those other banks systems and operate them, they now seem to have transfered them all ,I have 3 accounts and love them.0

Completely agree with you zipdip. Valid point about taking on other banks as well, especially valid with the removal of the added value accounts! They must of had a vast array of current/savings products that migrated over from the old banks.
I have banked with Abbey/Santander for 19 years and never had any issues! Even when i accidentally used my debit card whilst drunk (oops) at university and incurred £150 worth of charges as I didn't check my statement for over a month (oops again) they refunded straight away!
I also think there has been a massive improvement since they have removed their foreign call centres.
I would happily recommend the Santander 123 to any friends or family and even in my own circumstances where i don't have many DDs but have a healthy balance my DD cashback covers the £2 monthly fee! Also got the 123 CC for free for 12 months and making a nice bit of cashback on that too!Santander 123 cashback 2013: £31.45Santander 123 interest 2013: £64.64Santander 123 credit card cashback 2013: £57.45

any idea if that would work when you open a second 123 account? I have held the first 123 account for close on 12 months now and am maxed out so need another home for another 20K, would be "nice" to get a cashback on top even though i would not be a new customer to Santander0 -

It did for me on my no. 2 123 - - but I applied before they added the "must switch" condition to the terms. I got paid ok about two and a half months after applying.
I believe the only cashback offer for the 123 is presently at Topcashback, and you should check the T&Cs for any "must switch" clause. I think someone said they found it buried somewhere in there.0
