I've just read this thread with great interest. I've been an Abbey/Santander customer for over twenty years and have been reasonably happy with them. I particularly like their iPhone app.
Did existing customers get the Quidco payment please? Quidco says: 'Customers do not need to have another product with Santander to qualify' which rather implies that if you are an existing customer that is OK too. Has anyone on here had it as an existing customer?- I am thinking that I'll apply for the 123 credit card first, gaining myself a £21 cashback via Quidco.
- Then I'll apply, again, via Quidco, for a new 123 current account, with a £45 cashback. The terms and conditions of the credit card say 'for new and existing 123 Credit Card customers, we'll refund the first year's annual fee if you also open a 123 Current Account' so I'll get the fee for the credit card refunded.
I'd be very grateful if those of you on here with more experience could let me know if there are any flaws in this plan? Thank you.0 -

My Santander TopCashBack transactions have tracked, but that's no gaurantee that they won't be rejected after a couple of months.C'mon you Canaries!!0 -

You can change/upgrade your existing santander account into a 123 current account instantly upon application, and leave the DD,SO as it is.0 -

Oh dear... I have a feeling there will be a large number of disappointed people on MSE. Let's just say I have an intricate understanding of Santander having worked in the branch network until very recently.
1) As previously mentioned, Santander will not move your direct debits from an internal account. You would have to apply for the upgrade on the account with Santander directly where they simply update the tarrif you are on and pay you cashback.
2) Cashback Incentives (Quidco, TCB or Santanders £100/200/300 offer) never apply for existing BANKING customers. So I am sorry to say that everyone that has applied via TCB will be disappointed when the tracked £55.55 is never paid.
From TopCashBacks website:
The 123 Current Account is open to new and existing Santander customers aged 18 and above (must be UK resident). TopCashBack Cashback is only available to NEW customers.
3) An existing customer is anyone with an open bank account. It doesnt matter whether you havent used it in 10 years, if its open - you dont get the money. The easiest way is to close it, wait 13 weeks and try again. While you are waiting 13 weeks you could be using the First Direct offer to get your £100 :-p
Hope that this clears sometthings up.

Does anyone know if the "new customer only" condition is for any kind of account or just their current accounts? I only have an ISA with Santander and I would love to get the cashback.0 -

In the unlikely event you don't get the cashback you can easily close it down with a terse secure message.
