Royal bank of Scotland - GP banking

Just wanted to share my experience, i open an account through Gregory pennington, which is basically a Royal bank of scotland account that is managed by them, when you open it you pay a £25 "Starter Fee" which omes out of your first payment into the account and then you pay £8 per month for a money manager to keep your account running, but for this you get loads of benefits, for example- When a DD is due to come out instead of them just not paying it (insufficent funds) and you get a whopping charge they will ring you remind you its coming out and explain why it cannot be paid therfore asking you credit the account to pay it or they cancel it so you never get charged any "fee's" like other banks, you can NEVER be overdrawn no matter how as they wont pay out any money which isnt in your acount. With the account at the minute its a cash card however they are in the process of updating and have just informed me that ALL customers will have Debit cards by the end of March and they will be "Online" from the summer so you get all the benfits of a normal bank.

Just thought it was worth mentioning here as this is a great way to save money with thte charges etc and would recommend them everytime, there so polite, professional and curtious on the phone and your always kept "up-to date" with whats going on. Truly excellent bank

  • I though Gregory Pennington were a debt collection company?
  • Gregory Pennington is a company which doubles up as 50% of the companies listed in the yellow pages under "loans". They ask you a series of questions and instead of giving you what you want, they try and stitch you up with what they think you need. For example, you ring up for a home improvement loan....they pass you on to one of their "leading debt helpers" who actually sign you into an IVA.

Be careful with RBS as well...I've banked with them for over 7 years and they are now treating me like dirt.
;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)

Why pay £25 and then £8/month ongoing instead of keeping your affairs in order yourself?
  • When I banked with RBS the local branch would phone me when I got near to my overdraft limit and there were payments showing as pending; to advise me that I would go overdrawn and suggest that I come down and pay in some cash. Ah, those were the halcyon days... It went downhill a wee while later where the phone calls stopped, the queues were out of the front door regardless of the time of day or week, and the staff suddenly became sulky and incapable of serving me without trying to sell me about half a dozen different products I clearly did not need nor want. It was not long after that I decided to go virtual and do all my banking online - with another bank

    Just what I was thinking.
