Visa Electron card with Alliance & Leicester Account

Hi everyone. Looking for someone with experience of Electron cards.

I am reverting to using my old dormant Alliance & Leicester account as my 'parachute' account while undergoing a DMP. The card accompanying the account is a Visa Electron and I seem to remember that when it was my main current account, some shops would not accept it.

This was pre-'chip and and pin' and I am wondering if things have changed now? I have just done a web search on electron cards and found an explanation of the principle of them (namely, that the numbers are not raised for reading in certain machines) but that doesn't tell me who does/not accept them.

Can anyone help? I would like to know as it may dictate how I set up my money management for my budget. If I can't use my card in shops, I will have to run a cash system.

Hi I have an electron card with A&L I can use it in most shops especially high street ones and supermarkets. I find not many places take it for internet shopping ie tesco.com, virgin trains, Next online (there are others aswell just not sure of the top of my head) I can use it to pay my catalogues on line.

Where would you need to use it

It's going to be my main account so, technically, I may need to use it anywhere.
