Missing home insurance

We purchased a house in December and the conditions of the mortgage from Halifax stated that we needed buildings insurance.

We filled in forms for Life Assurance and Buildings cover via a Broker and although the Life Assurance was processed, we have had no details on the home insurance.

I have tried to ask/find out who is the provider but no details, no acknowledgments in the post either.

How can I find out who is providing cover because presumably when the mortgage was approved, Halifax were satisfied that buildings cover was provided...or can this slip through without adequate cover?

    1. Ask the person who arranged the cover.

    2. Ask the solicitor if he had details on file from exchange.

    3. Check bank statements for premium payments.

Last thought. Is it possible the cover was via Paymentshield? This is a popular broker insurer as the contract can be cancelled on a monthly basis with no fees or penalties and offers two months free cover at the outset.

No one, no money has gone out yet. The OP has suggested the two months free, thats a possibility I think, but then we should surely have had paperwork sent to us.

I've tried chasing the relevant people but no responses yet. Half tempted to take out another policy with Direct Line who I have contents with already as they are doing 12 months for £150 which is decent.

Yes, it is possible to 'slip through'. Halifax make it a condition of the loan but rely on your solicitor to check that you fulfil all the loan conditions before requesting the funds. When I moved, this meant sending me a letter telling me to get buildings insurance!

If the broker can't tell you, and you're paying no premiums, I'd be tempted to think you aren't insured at present.
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

I'll see if I get a response then act upon it next week. I certainly have contents insurance as this carried over from a rented property. As I've never seen any paperwork I'm also inclined to think there is no insurance, but I'm worried that they will ask for money in the future and backdate the insurance if they realize there is an error.
