In twenty years of driving I had never renewed a policy as it was always cheaper elsewhere, but then three years ago I did as it was the best deal- I nearly died of shock. I have been with the company for the last three years although I always have to ring them up as "new" customer to get the best price as they normally stick on a good £150 for my loyalty. Cheeky gits.
A few years a go my Dad shopped around for his house insurance as he had always had it with the mortgage company and didn't realise he could take his business any where. Over twenty ot so years they had upped his policy bit by bit for his loyalty, when he changed companies he took my Mum away to Malta for a fortnight all inclusive with the difference. He was proper angry with the Abbey.

I always use the comparison sites, then check with Quidco and Topcashback. Quite often the 2nd or third lowest will also have cashback.

Renewal this year is £308.59 Same company, same policy, on comparison sites is £258 with another £42.50 back from Quidco.

    That's a 43% "mugs mark up".

I just renewed with the same company - when I checked on the comparison sites they were still the cheapest, but the renewal quote was a lot more. A quick phone call and they dropped the renewal quote to match what the comparison site had quoted me. They're just after some quick profit from people who don't pay attention and just let it renew automatically.

Agree with that 100% ,done it a few times with my car and bike ins
    Have a nice day :)

The only company that gave me decent renewals was Quinn. I stayed with them for two renewals as their offer was the cheapest by quite a few ££ on what I could get elsewhere as a new customer.

I don't think I've ever stayed with the same insurer for more than a year.

If you are a loyal customer, the company you are loyal to will inevitably screw you.
