CAUSTIC SODA? Good Lord, that's a sledgehammer to crack a nut. A potentially dangerous sledgehammer at that. I would never recommend anyone use something like caustic soda unless they've got a complete hazmat body-suit, or at the least, rubber gloves, a face-mask and a pair of very long tongs. Or a family member/friend they don't much care for.0

Just a thought...
Try hot washing powder paste and left on with vinegar overnight then scrub with metal scourer (or add more vinegar, smear all over and put back in microwave oven and blast for 30 secs.0 -
The stainless steel scourers are fantastic. Think i paid a quid fo 4 at lidl. i have used with just a squeeze of washing up liquid and a little water on a very baked on oven door. I'd soak it in very hot water with biological washing powder. That's how I do my oven shelves, in the bath overnight & rinse in the morning all the build up just rinses off.0

A scourer did the trick, no need for any nasties (and Tesco had their 4 pack of scourers half price, 85p for 4, so a bargain there too). Now just as see-through as the day we bought it (and I must keep that promise to wipe it down every time I use it instead of letting it get this bad again!)0
