Walking Holiday in New Zealand.. Over 60

Hi all
My Mum is planning on a trip of a lifetime to New Zealand in October... she has a brother in Wellington and another in Auckland so will be staying with them for a while...
She is looking to visit the south island for about a fortnight and I was wondering if anyone had done a walking tour there - she is a keen walker and does around 40miles a week... at 62 she is far fitter than I am!! She will also be going alone - so would be looking for a sociable group rather than sitting in a hotel room alone.. I have seen a few companys but cant find any kind of review for them...
If anyone has any info - good or bad i would be most grateful...
