I got pulled over by the police (for texting at traffic lights, oops!) and showed my plastic driving license. I also had to go to the police station later that night with the paper part. You can replace your paper part online or over the phone with the DVLA.

One of my pet hates is people who speed through road works, but having said that your comments are innacurate and sharp in the extreme.

Protecting a workforce is what the cameras are there for and I'm all for that. We don't allow cars and trucks to thunder past people on foot inany other areas, motorways should be no exception.

That said, speed does NOT kill, its the inappropriate use of speed which kills. Along the coast road here I witness some stupid overtaking in the summer and all because some people refuse to go above 30mph in the national speed limit between villages and then pootle at 20 through the villages admiringthe view. This causes a traffic jam of frustrated drivers behind many of whom end up overtaking in the wrong places.

Celebrate. Don't try to cheat average speed check cameras, they do just that, measure your average speed through the road works. Slow down when you see the first camera and dont speed up till you see the last one and the 'end' signs. If you are in a hurry and the road is clear its far safer to stick your foot down afterwards for a few minutes to catch up the minute or so you lost in the roadworks.
