John Lewis warranty -oven woes

Hi all,

in Spring 2010 we bought a dual fuel John Lewis Cooker (made by Smeg). It came with a 3 year warranty. The other week, the oven made a horrible grinding noise and the fan stopped working. We called the warranty centre and they sent someone out. He was there for all of 5 mins, diagnosed a loose screw and put the fan back on it's mount.

After he left we stated to use the oven again but the OH was convinced it wasn't heating up to temperature. Food that should have taken 20 mins to cook was taking over an hour. Then last night the fan stopped working again.

So I called them up again and they have just sent someone out. I explained the problems we'd had but this new guy seemed unfamiliar with the model of oven we have got. He took the plate off the fan housing and reaffixed the fan. This time he said the fan had a push in fitting, not a screw fitting. I queried this as the other guy had clearly mentioned a loose screw. He couldn't explain what the other guy was talking about. I asked him what was to stop the fan coming off again? He couldn't give me a satisfactory answer.

He then turned on the oven for a few mins, and afterwards put his hand in there and declared that it was "working fine, nice and toasty". No empirical testing, i.e. with a thermometer, was carried out and the guy left shortly afterwards.

I am not saisfied that either engineer has completed a thorough investigation of the fault. Nor am I satisfied that the issue has been resolved or will not reoccur. We are planning to buy a cooking thermometer to collect some data to see if the oven temperature issue really is fixed. Does anyone have any advice on how we handle this going forward?

Many thanks,

Jo
